Parenting and academia are not easy to reconcile (especially for women), as shown by the differing data on maternity leave and parental leave among academic and administrative staff. Men's participation in parental leave per calendar year has increased over the last 10 years but has recently declined again slightly. (Early parental leave or “Papamonat” included.)

What is striking about parental part-time work is the drastic decline after 2019. Since then, men have only taken parental part-time work in single cases, while the number of cases among women in administrative staff has declined by half.

The proportion of female employees on maternity leave per calendar year declined significantly between 2013 and 2023, with the decline being slightly more pronounced among administrative staff.
